The Barzites are one of 4 major factions in Geneforge 2. They occupy the majority of the southwest portion of the Drypeak Mountains, including their home city of Rising. They are led by Barzahl.

Origins[]

The Barzites were founded in-between the events of Geneforge 1 and Geneforge 2. After the second Sucia Island incident, Zakary and Barzahl were sent to the island to investigate. While there, they discovered the Geneforge and canisters, and in order to preserve their legacy, stole the plans for them.

Later, after they became rulers of the city of Drypeak in the Drypeak Mountains, Barzahl started performing experiments in the mountains, making them more hospitable, creating more and more powerful creations, and trying to further perfect their self-shaping techniques.

Eventually, Zakary and him got into arguments over his experiments, and they cut all ties with each other, with Zakary remaining in Drypeak and Barzahl fleeing to his city of Rising to continue his experiments.

Those loyal to Barzahl left with him, and together they formed the first Barzites in the southwestern parts of the Drypeak Mountains.

Barzahl also allied with the Takers at one point, but they eventually split up due to Barzahl's anti-creation independence policies. They did ally long enough for the Takers to adopt Barzahl's invention of the Drakon, however, which later became a staple of the Rebellion.

Political Views[]

The Barzites believe solely in power. They want to perfect every bit of themselves, using their self-shaping machinery in the Radiant College and their custom made canisters. They have the ability to make an ordinary human into a Shaper with minimal training. This leads to all of the other factions fearing and loathing them, as they believe them to be insane and reckless.

The Barzites believe that all creations should have every bit of independent thought removed, in order to prevent any chance of rebellion. Nearly all of the creations in their city Rising are created mindlessly obedient and additionally controlled by special rods.

Involvement[]

The Barzites are a very important part of the plot in Geneforge 2. They are one of the factions the protagonist can join to finish the game, and to every other faction they are a threat that needs to be dealt with in their questline.

In the canon ending, they are destroyed by the Shaper Council, with nearly every single member being either killed on sight or executed, including Barzahl himself.

Trivia[]

  • Together with the Obeyers, the Barzites are the only faction in the series outside of Geneforge 5 to only exist in a single game of the series.
